Help Hudl2 update failure

We bought one of our kids a Hudl2 this Christmas and I'm having trouble setting it up.

During the initial setup it connects to wifi and wants to download an update. When it does this an error message comes up almost immediately telling me there had been a problem and offers to try again. Each time it fails.

I can't find any way to bypass this stage. Have tried a factory reset as well but the same. Wifi connection is fine, as is the internet connection.

Any suggestions?

No-one? Oh well.

We took it back to Tesco yesterday (94 mile drive, each way) and after a bit of a struggle got them to replace it. Got the new one home and it does exactly the same. The person we spoke to did admit to having had a few returned with the same fault so it looks like its more common that is maybe acknowledged.

Ridiculous that you can't actually complete the initialisation of the device without being forced to download and apply an update. Another long journey is now required to take this one back and I'll be discussing compensation and a refund with the store manager...

Tesco hudl2 can't get google play and other google apps to sync it keeps saying error can't sync. Please help
