Huge battery drain with wifi on (Jelly Bean)

ever since I updated to Jelly Bean I've felt that wifi was draining my battery faster so I simply switeched it off. I then realised that with it on, Google Now works much better as the clever wifi positioning thing they do (even on networks your not connected to) gets position much more acurately than cell towers so Google Now actually becomes useful telling me the correct train home from the correct station etc. Not loving google now but want to leave it on as I think it has great potential to improve.

Last night I decided to test battery drain with wifi on, so charged to 100% then left it alone. 7h 49m later its down to 67% with no usage at all. Thats over 4% per hour, up from 1% per hr with wifi off and google now on and 0.5 % per hour with wifi and google now off. So whats the big drain, I used to leave wifi on all the time with my iphone (sorry to mention it!) so how do they manage it? Android System (25%) and gpsd (25%) are the two main culprits checking the battery stats. I'd never seen gpsd before Jelly Bean but now see it often although not normally that high. Guess its to do with location but don't think gps was actually switched on at all. Maybe google now just needs to learn that I sleep at night time so it doesn't need to keep checking my location, I'm not sure. Anyone had similar, any solutions? I factory reset and started from scratch after JB update so shouldn't need to do that again

I had the gspd issue, did a bit of research and turns out for me it was a problem with the maps app still searching for a position. I went into applications - running and force closed it down - seems to have sorted it. Good luck!

hi, I am very new to andriod and have had my s3 for about a week now.

I am also getting very poor battery life, i only get about 11hrs off a full charge with not much usage and most features turned off.

The main culprit for me is GPSD which kills over half my battery, however I have turned GPS off. I have noticed that maps is constantly open in the background. I keep going into aplications manager to close it but it just starts back up again?

Hi, I've had the GSPD battery drain too. I was looking for answers here last week so thought I would reply as I now seem to have got rid of it.
Last night I changed my animated wallpaper and hey presto this morning my phone is back to normal and is not showing the GSPD drain any more.

Thought I would share this as I know how annoying it is, i've only had my phone a month, it was driving me mad....
