I am missing something on the Galaxy...or is it me..

I wanted to try a certain provider. So I asked if they had a phone I could borrow. Which they let me use a Galaxy J3 Emerge.. They asked if I need a case, and other accessories and I declined. I figured just a few days and return and use my iPhone. Which was OK with them. BUT wouldn't you figure, the phone feel out of my pocket and broke the glass. SO I ended up buying the phone but I do not use it now. SO now I have an idea of using like a music player like a MP3 player in my vehicles. So I loaded some music on the phone. But it will not allow me to play it. It wants to be activated or connected to a network. Is it possible to use this phone as I mentioned? THX

Maybe it depends upon the source of the music or DRM for it. I have music on my old Samsung S3 that was originally ripped from CD and it still plays even though the phone no longer has mobile service (although, it does have Internet access through WiFi). For some reason the music player widget did not show any music initially (maybe because I have not used it for so long). But once I went to MyFiles, opened the Music folder and started to play a song, songs from those albums show up in the music player widget and it can play them.

If for some reason your phone needs to connect to the internet to play your music, have you tried connecting the phone to WiFi. Although, that would not work in your car if it always requires Internet to play that music.

Is it telling you that the phone needs to be activated or maybe it just needs to be associated with your Google email account?

It wants to be activated, meaning through the service provider? If so you should contact the provider and they should unlock being that you paid for it
If not, and you mean it just needs a Google account to be used, then there should be a skip button which will get you into the phone. If no skip button simply get WiFi for a few min and sign in.
Otherwise your phone shouldn't need network to play music that's on your phone, unless you're using one of those apps that do require that because they use the internet for music
So can you explain when and how it's asking you to activate

If you want to use this phone as just a mp3 player there's no need for any online connectivity. Assuming you're just doing local transfers between the phone and your computer, and the mp3 files themselves do not have any DRM restrictions, there's something else going on if you're seeing any kind of activation or whatever message popping up. It sounds like you're perhaps using an app like Google Music that initially defaults to online sources when it starts up? While Google Music can be used solely for local (only on your phone) content, in your case I'd recommend installing the VLC app, it can play a wide variety of file formats and has a nice user interface:

Connect your J3 to your home WiFi and install the app, then you can just disable WiFi and mobile data as you won't need them running any longer. As you're just going to use this phone as a media player in your car you might also want to just enable only one screen (press two fingers on any screen and swipe them diagonally towards each other to delete all the screens except for the Home screen). Now with just the Home screen showing, delete all the other icons and put just the VLC icon in the middle so it's easily accessible. You might also want to add the My Files app, the Samsung default file manager app, as you can use it organize/rename/delete your mp3 files.
