I broke my phone's calendar abilities (ASUS Zenfone 2 rooted)

Fraxiom

Newbie
I recently rooted my Zenfone to delete the massive amount of bloatware. (A disgustingly huge 3GB)

One of the pre-loaded apps I chose to delete was the ASUS calendar. No biggie, right? I'd just install Google Calendar and be fine.

Apparently, things aren't that easy.

Not only will Google Calendar constantly fail, but every calendar-type app I download will not work at all.

I believe I removed the "calendar provider."

I am dependent on my Google Calendar for school so any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Hi @Fraxiom and welcome to Android Forums :)

It sounds like you'll likely need to restore the Calendar Provider .apk from a stock ROM - or you could see if another user could extract their version of the APK for you. It's likely going to be device-specific, so you may
want to try poking around at Root - ASUS ZenFone 2.

Good luck!

Edit: Actually there's a guide there of what apps are safe to remove - and it also includes a backup of the apps. It's possible that the Calendar app may be included in that backup: http://androidforums.com/threads/ze551ml-root-and-apps-safe-to-remove.920979/

Oh jeez... It seems that they have everything BUT the calendar. I'll keep looking around but if I hit the bottom of the barrel, is there any hope?

Thank you so much in advance!

UPDATE:

I found the correct .apk for my firmware. Exctracted it to my phone, my phone will not let it install. Simply displays "App not installed." during attempts. Any thoughts?

Not being familiar with the device I can't guarantee my instruction will be 100% accurate... but you generally install System applications by copying the .apk file into /system/app and rebooting the device. Might be worth a shot?

Ugh......

I copied the .apk into system, reboot, to no avail. I tried the same thing in it's direct location with no sucess. Things are starting to look bleak...

I'll keep experimenting with different methods, but a factory reset could be in order.

Thank you so much for your contribution and efforts.
