I can only install 65MB of Apps on my Desire !

I have a major issue with my Desire. I've been keeping an eye on the amount of Internal Phone Storage space I have left as it's running very low (9MB) and I've noticed that if I install an application and then uninstall it not all of the space is freed up. I've tried rebooting and that does not help. I don't want to go down the path of do a factory reset and restoring my apps but I can't think of any other way round it. I added up my installed applications and it only added up to 55MB. I've had to uninstall the recent updates to Maps and Facebook just to free up some space. I can't fit Google Earth on my phone, it's way too big.

Does anyone know which folder on the phone applications are installed to? I've found the system apps in /system/app but I'd like to check to see if there's anything left behind from applications that I've uninstalled.

Please help, it's driving me mad.

I have the same problem, tried rebooting the phone as well. Read on another forum that a dude did a full system recovery, and the memory was back.

I don't think that can be right :-) I am currently down to 69.85mb app storage, and I've uninstalled most of my apps!

I'm thinking it will come - and until then, it is still an awesome phone!

And, I've just tried "Quick Uninstaller" from market, which has a cache cleaner (though I think you do it manually on all of your applications) - I did it cleaned caches, around 9 on the browser, and it didn't gave me any more app storage :(

You can do a factory reset it about 20 min total apps and all. Just remember the first time you go into the market it will show all of your apps. Install them all at once. The phone will be up and able to make calls ect in about 4 min. Just make sure you know all your passwords. Its not that bad if you have 3g or wifi.

have you tried going to manage application then application then selecting browser and market place and clearing the cache?

Agreed. When you click on mange apps hit menu and choose sort by size. The big hogs will be at the top.

I've tried manually clearing the cache, you can't use cachmate etc on a Desire as its not been rooted. I guess I will have to wait until someone roots the phone or HTC release an update. I think this is a major flaw!

Just do a factory reset. Why suffer when you could have it fixed in a few minutes. Its not that huge a deal. Its not like reinstalling windows. Your contacts and calendar come back in a few minutes your pics and music are safe on the SD. So you have to reload some apps.

Thanks for the advice, clearing the cache does not work though! I had to do the factory reset in the end. I was down to about 10MB of space. I took a backup using MYBACKUP, did the reset and restored all my apps using MYBACKUP and now I have 105mb of free space. HTC/Google need to get this fixed as I'm sure this is going to happen to all Desire users.

Is this just a desire problem or is this a problem with all android phones?

To me it looks like a user-specific problem and not device-OS specific problem.

I bet there was something saved in the device memory that was taking the memory and I do not mean apps.
