I can't boot into recovery mode, need help

I've noticed that my battery doesn't last as long after upgrading to 6.0 so I was told to wipe the cache partition in recovery mode. Well, I follow the directions: turn the phone off, hold power and volume down button at the same time until LG logo appears then release and then push them again at the same time until recovery mode appears. This never happens. I hold it all the way through the Metro PCS boot up and it puts my phone in safe mode. I also tried holding power and volume down at the same time and just releasing when the LG logo appears and still no recovery. HELP! I want to fix my battery drain.

First are you rooted with Custom Recovering?

If not, you'll need to be.

If so, you don't take your fingers off both buttons. just the power key when the logo appears then put it back on. or you can just download Quick Boot and boot into recovery from it.

I am not rooted. I went directly to the LG website and it said nothing about being rooted.

If you do a wipe from the stock recovery it does a factory reset just FYI. The step I think you're missing is you hold both power + voldown, once the screen comes on, release power but not voldown, then push power and keep voldown pushed down the whole time until you see something.
