I cant get movies onto my Droid!

I am so frustrated. I have a Moto Droid and I have been trying to put movies on it. I have tried several ways and nothing. I have digital copies of a Wanted and Matrix and Toy Story 3 already on my computer. I tried creating a movies file then clickand drag onto my mounted phone the try to watch using Rockplayer but nothing. What am I doing wrong? Do the movies need to be converted to another format or what? How do i do that if so?? How do I then transfer and watch the movies? I am so frustrated because I have tried several times and still nothing? Please help and maybe give me step by step

I found this webpage to have really handy, step-by-step instructions.

It's written for a Droid X, but I've tested it and it worked on multiple movies. If you have a different droid then the resolution you should use might be different, but the steps would be the same.

As others have said, you need to convert any movies to a compatible format (MP4 being the most popular).

This will allow a movie to be played on almost any phone, ipod, or mobile media device.
