I Did Not Agree To This (Rant)

Sorry Verizon, I did not agree to this.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 which was upgraded to Android 4.4.2 recently.

Before the upgrade, my monthly data usage was just under 150megs, (I'm not a big data plan user which is why I got a limited data plan), and I would get 2, maybe 3 days from a fully charged battery.

My data plan usage last month after the upgrade was somewhere around 700megs, and I was only getting a day or so from the battery.

If you, (Verizon), is going to have applications running in the background that I cannot shut down, dismiss, or turn off, using the data channel, then you need to be paying for it or compensating me for your use of my data plan.

So, for this month, I've taken to turning off the data channel when I'm not using it, and my battery life is back to needing a charge every 2 or 3 days.

The newer OS May be using more data due to updating bugs, and whatever other programs Verizon has installed that may need an update. There are programs on play store that are designed to monitor data usage so you can pinpoint what exactly is using it. I know Onavo Count had a data usage meter that would also allow you to see which app is using the most, so you can try that. There are plenty more that do the same thing, but I only have experience with Onavo so I can only tell you about that. You can also set a data limit reminder in that program, last time I used it. I stopped since I have unlimited data now.

My Maxx did the same thing during the first few days after I activated it. Turns out that Google+ was backing up all the pictures and videos (including some movies I had copied to the device). This happened even though I had checked "back up only on Wifi" in the G+ settings. It hasn't happened since that first week.

You can also disable background data on an app by app basis so they wont use your mobile data when you're not using them. Step three will show you how much data that app has used, might help you determine whats causing the high usage.

1. Go to your phones Settings menu.
2. Tap Data Usage
3. Scroll down to the app and tap it.
4. Scroll down and tap to check Restrict Background Data.

For some apps you wont get some updates/notifications after after doing this when you're not using that app.

Which only works for apps your interact with, anything that doesn't have a "user interface" is probably considered "foreground" because of that.

@Thom :: I'm a bit lost on what you're referring to.
