I hate Iphoto but I dont know why

Ive given up on Iphoto so many times before but I honestly would like to be able to use it. Does anyone else fell like it takes yours photos and holds them hostage? If I upload photos to it, it seems like it makes 20 copies of that photo and leaves it with thumbnails everywhere. Is there a good reliable application pc or mac that can do the same thing as Iphoto but leave the original in tact and not make a ton of new folders/images.

It's all about figuring out how to use the system. I'm still figuring it out on our Mac bought in August.

Overall I think it's a very nice experience.

Does picasa make a ton of copies of your original and take up a ton of space??
