i have questions about charging

the13bats

Newbie
Both me and my wife have note 5s
we both have charging issues,

I learned for fast charging i have to use the samsung cube plug, ( whatever its called )
But any cable will work,

Heres the issue, we buy a new cable ( aftermarket ) they might fast charge a few days or weeks, my last one lasted a few months then it will only cable ( slow charge )

I am assuming the cables go bad, but whats going wrong they still charge just no fast charge,
Could it be both phones have bad charger ports?
Or are the cables just ware prone junk?

Thanks for views, info and opinions,
Cheers
b

Having two phones and two chargers, you should be able to find out what cable or charger is going bad by testing them one by one.

I haven't had very many problems with USB cables, they tend to last several years. Where did you buy those aftermarket cables? Are they a name brand or knock-offs?

Sure with two phones we know whats bad, heck i know with one phone that 3 cables i have are not 100% bad they just wont fast charge only cable ( slow ) charge,

I have best luck with samsung cable and my aftermarket ones do not seem to vary much on quality regardless of it its from a dollar store or higher end ,

But my question i guess is deeper on the technical end,
Why would "any" cable samsung or other fast charge just fine for a spell then only slow charge,
Cable problem or samsung fast charge circuit problem,
Thats why i was asking.

I don't have a clue as to why those cables will work as quick charge and later degrade to just normal charging. But we do have very different opinions on USB cables in general so I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem you're having.
A good Anker PowerLine cable is only about $10 but it has a thicker gauge wires (its relevance being thicker wire is better at transmitting electrical signals and power), better and thicker insulation, and there's more plastic around each connector end to support the actual metal contacts and stress-relief to minimize fraying. With cheap bargain specials or even just knock-offs, every time there's any kind of problem it's one to the first things to look into to see if they are or are not the cause. With good cables that's the last thing to look at.

Svim,
Thsnk you,
While sometimes i might write forums posts a bit askew you did grasp my question,

"Why do my usb cables at first work as quick charger then degrade to slow charge only"

You did misinterpret what i said about price, quailty or cable brand being my "opinion" it doesnt matter.
that is not my opinion but rather a piece in this puzzle that any cable regardless of brand i have tried eventuality gets where it will slow charge only,

I do not for personal reasons like to brand drop in forums but the point i was trying to make was i havent seen a relation to this problem and cost or cable brand / quality,

I also assure you i know wiring as i have been doing it both DC and for a shorter time AC about 40 years, when i for example restore a vintage car i use the best wire and corrections i can find.
Wire gauge matters as does materials wire is made from.

I fully understand your point about cable wear and i agree that wear seems to be a clue here to the issue but not really the answer to my question.

From my understanding fast charging is a samsung feature and as mentioned it only works with that correct plug cube marked for "fast charging"

I was hoping a tech head savvy on the sansung fast charge technology would chime in with some 101 on the subject,
Im not saying it wont be a cable issue the cable is a main issue here but why does it fast charge for a spell then degrade to slow charge only that is my real question.
