Help I like notifications but not banners

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5, im on lollipop.

Okay, so i have streaks in snapchat and its annoying when i see a huge bannee that covers the top part of my screen, however i would like to still recieve notifications from snapchat, when i get an email, instead of recieving a banner, it just shows the headline or the sender and contents in the top black bar, i think the status bar is what it is called. i used to have an old phone and when i got a notification, it would display in the blackbar rather than take up a 8th of the screen, i beleive it was possibly running something called cyanogen mod, i dont know if thats why it was like that,

So basically has anyone got any ideas on how i can stop the clunky banners but keep notifications, i am also rooted so all ideas supported

Depends on the individual. Some people like the banners. I do. Some of my apps haven't been updated to have banners, so I downloaded an app (Floatify) that gives notification banners on everything. Lol. It does have behavior settings though (like no banners when playing games, etc). I could also edit the size of the banner with it, so all good.

So I had the same issue, even if I wanted to text someone, i would get a adchoice pop up. So what I done was downloaded F-droid and DNS66 - you will have to go on your web browser on your phone and download it, if it says your missing some updates after you download both of those F-droid and DNS66, it will ask if you want to continue anyway..answer yes. ( I use this instead of googleplay) and I also got the AppBrain Ad Detector , that finds what your problem is and where those ads are coming from. If you download any call blocker, that will cause those annoying pop ups too. I also disabled my Chrome browser and got Brave Browser. I uninstalled all the apps from google play that I really didnt need or that AppBrain said was causing concerns. And I downloaded my apps from F-Droid. And ALL the pop ups STOPPED!
