I lost my Maps History option.

How can I keep the last location I searched for from appearing when I open Google Maps or Earth the next time?

There used to be an option in the Maps side menu: Settings > Maps History, but it's not there anymore!
I've cleared the cache AND the data under Settings > Applications > Application Manager but it doesn't keep the last search from appearing next time I open either app.
I would like to be able to see my Search History on both Maps and Earth, but I don't see any way to do it, since the Maps History option disappeared. I don't think I ever could see the Earth History. Is there a way to? Can you help? Thanks.

Hi, welcome to Android Forums.

Have you recently updated Maps? I had an update this morning to 9.10.0 and 'Maps history' is still an option in 'Settings' - it may be worth uninstalling/installing updates.

I don't think Earth has ever had a 'History' option, the version I have certainly doesn't.

Thank you tommo47.

When i went to Apps Manager to see if I could uninstall updates for Maps, a notice came up saying This application will be replaced with the factory version.

I cancelled out because I'm not sure what that means. I've only had this phone for two months. Maps was preinstalled on it, but I vaguely remember either updating it or installing a Street View app to work with it, can't remember which it was. If it went back to 'factory version,' what exactly would that mean?

It would revert to the version of Maps that was on the phone when it came out of the box. You should then be able to go to Playstore and update to the latest version.

As a matter of interest, what phone is it and was it new when you had it two months ago, and what version of Maps is on it currently?

Have you tried just updating Maps? - as I said earlier I had a notification of the update to 9.10.0 yesterday.

If you think you may have updated Maps since you had the phone I would try uninstalling updates then re-installing and see if that sorts it for you.

I was required to sign into gmail after a maps update (I think) and then my history appeared.. Since I don't use gmail at all this surprised me but it worked.

As above, pretty sure you have to be signed in to your Google account in Maps to see or save history.
You are right, there is a 'sign out' at the bottom of the 'settings' page which to be honest I don't recall ever seeing, but if I sign out 'Maps history' disappears and next time I go to 'settings' I get a prompt to sign in - but I've never had to do that after an update nor when I set up my M9 last month (unless I'm losing it!!). I guess I must have 'signed in' at some point in the past but I have no idea when.

My apologies to the OP if I've misled you. :(
