I need help please with lock screen notifications and badge counts

Hi Everyone,

First post here. Just got the Note 5, not entirely familiar with Lollipop but as far as I can tell I have lock screen notifications set up for my mail apps, messages and calendar,.problem is shouldn't a new mail or message light up my screen when its off/asleep? If I press the home button and light it up I see the notifications but it would be really nice while driving to glance down at the phone without touching it to see what came in.

Secondly, I was getting badge counts on my home screen apps and now I 'm not.

My phone is a brand new 2 day old at&t 64GB completely stock. I am not using any outside launchers, etc...

I got the badge counts figured out. However I would still like all incoming notifications to wake up my screen briefly so I can view a snipet of what arrived without touching the phone
