I need to change my primary Google/Gmail address

Indulge me while I tell my story. I have been using Google products for many years starting with Blogger. For a long time I simply signed in with my hotmail account. I think this was before GMail even, but it's been so long I don't recall. Eventually I created a couple GMail account, but never really used them. I created one very obnoxious Gmail address more or less as a joke. Fast forward to getting a DroidX smartphone. While setting up my phone I somehow connected it to this Gmail address, which I hate. My Google account uses it, my phone uses it, my tablet uses it. What I want to do is get everything transferred over to a newer, more palatable address. This may be beyond the scope of this forum, but it seems a good place to start. Previous attempts have ended in frustration and failure. It can't be as hard as all that, but i think it is?

Hoping you can help.

All you have to do is log out of your table or device with that account. However, once you do this all the information from this account will disappear from the tablet or device.

Having said that you should move all pictures, contacts to the account you would like to use on google drive.

To do this, you'll need to FIRST add google account you wish to use on your device or tablet ad then add the content. contacts, pictures, bookmarks, etc. You'll also need to write down what apps you've downloaded, as you'll need to download them again.

Once that has been completed, you'll need to do a factory reset of the tablet and device.

Once that is complete log into both devices with the correct account you wish to use and you'll be good to go.

Thanks Konnected.

This is really more of a Google question than an Android, but this whole situation came about setting up my Android phone. Here is what I specifically want to do.
I'd like to keep my Hotmail login, just have a different gmail associated with it. My hotmail address has been my main point of contact for a dozen years, but now it is inextricably tied to this awkward address. I don't know if there is a way to break this connection.

You need gmail to access the device and register/activate it and to be able to download apps from the Google play store.

However, you can chose not to use the gmail app and gmail and download the hotmail app or use hotmail via the browser.
