I really want to move to t-mobile, but....

They only offer edge network in my area. 10 miles north of me they have 3G and 20 miles north they have 4g in Memphis. I am currently with Verizon and would cut my bill in half with the switch, plus I am looking at two great phones, amaze & sgsii. Can I survive off edge? Pandora? Should theyove 3G my way anytime soon?

Thanks

74 views and not one response?

Maybe those 74 people didn't have the knowledge to help you? I've never really understood why people who post here feel the community somehow owes them a response.

Anywho. EDGE is about twice the speed of dialup, about to ~~ 200kilobits per second max if I recall correctly. If you want to use EDGE for streaming music forget about it unless you can put up with a choppy/buffered connection. Basic data, emails, and occasional surfing EDGE will work "ok" for.

And please remember that people that help here do it of their own free will, on their time, and are not compensated for it in any way. We're here to help but sometimes you just have to be patient... or you can pay someone to help you on fixya.

T-Mobile may be able to better assist you regarding their 3G expansion plans in your area.

As far as streaming audio, the internet station that I listen to (ibizasonica.com) streams at ~120Kbps, which is "enough" for Edge connectivity. I never stream via mobile connection (data caps get breached quickly when streaming video, so I save it for when "needed" for playoff games while shopping with my lady), but as long as your signal strength is good, it should be a viable option if bandwidth requirements are met. Just don't get upset if your audio is interrupted however.
