If it has kitkat theres a root method, i doubt you have 4.4.4 though.

Download the app, run it, pay them to bypass the bootloader lock.
Flash Teamwin recovery project specifically for your device, then sideload or manually install SuperSU, reboot if no errors and done.

At this point, if the Droid Maxx is fully updated to the latest update, you cannot root. If you have SU6-7 update (the latest is SU6-7.7 I believe), there is a way, but I can't say from experience what it's like.
