I want to see Notifications from multiple places easily

I have multiple places where I would get a notification from: Gmail, Whatsapp, Text msg, phone, ... etc. ... how can it set it so I easily see new notifications from all and any of these? Do I need to leave them open, for instance, each app? Thanks for help. New to this phone.

No, just don't turn notifications for these apps off and they'll all pop up in the notification bar at the top, with a larger notification in the pull-down slide. You don't need to keep the apps open, they have little services running in the background to let you know if anything arrives.
