Help I wonder what I can do with wifi on my phone...

Hi all,

I am about to depart on an adventure to Germany, then to Ukraine. I have about decided from reading that my Mesmerize will be useless there as a phone device. However, it seems that if I could use wifi, I would not be using the typical phone to tower used with phone calls. Is it possible that I could connect to a wifi at a train station and send an email to stay connected?
(This is of course supposing I can figure out how.) Or should I just go buy a small laptop?

You may be able to use the WiFi without a phone service. A small tablet or ultrabook may be a better choice for your trip, though.
