Icon frames will not disappear

I have set icons to not have frames but the frames remain on some icons, not on others.

See the attached screenshot. There are no frames on Chrome, Google Play or Nine. But frames remain on Dropbox, Messenger, WhatsApp, Ring.

Can you help get rid of the frames? Thanks.

A bit of a shot in the dark but are you using a custom theme for your icons? A long time ago maybe on my s3 or 4 I think I remember that if a theme hadn't got a compatible custom icon for a certain app then the icon would always show the frame.

I am having this issue as well, i have the default theme but there are only 4 apps that still have the frames. Other apps toggle the frame when i change the settings but the frames are consistently there on 4 of my apps (Chrome, Play Store, Youtube, & the Apps button)

That usually means that whatever theme or icon pack you are using doesn't have an icon included for that app and is using a generic overlay on top of the apps internal icon to display the shortcut.

That happens for a few of mine, I just go in and edit it to a new one that is in the icon pack I'm using. Long-press the icon, select edit, click the picture and find a new fun one. They don't have to be the 'right' one, you are only changing the picture, not the app's functionality.

I have everything default and i know for a fact i had all my icons without a white background. It was only after the recent software update that this occured.

If you re-add those icons to your home screen from the app drawer, do you still get a.) the box around them, and b.) the same icon? It could be that the update changed the default icons in whatever theme so it's trying to use older ones as custom rather than the new defaults.
