Does anyone know what this icon means in the status bar?

I'm not familiar with the icon. Being a shield of sorts I'm guessing its some sort of protection service / app.

Yeah, there are dozens and dozens of "security" apps, "cleaners" (mostly junk apps), "file locking" apps, VPNs and even ad-blockers which use shield-shaped icons. So most likely something along one of those lines.
