Help ICS Upgrade Issues.

Hey all, I got ICS over the air few days ago and there a couple of differences in it that I was just wondering if I could fix. please forgive me I'm almost a complete n00b when it comes to Android.

Before on my home screen I could tap the edges and it would take me to either the left or the right screen, now I have to swipe to do that. I'm just wondering is there a setting that I can change that will fix that?

Also it use to charge slowly when I had my tablet plugged into my computer via USB. Now it will only hold the same charge level so if I plug it in with 80 percent it'll stay at 80 percent but it won't go any higher. Is there anything I can do to fix that?

thank you for your time.

I never tapped to move between screens, so I guess I never really noticed the change. I don't see a way to change it, but perhaps I'm looking in the wrong area.

Mine still charges slowly on USB. I never use USB to charge, but I was copying over a few videos and it took a while. I noticed the charge level went up 3% while getting a snack waiting for the upload to complete. I wasn't watching, but it was roughly an hour, so it's quite slow.

I noticed the tap to flip screens disappeared too - I used it all the time back with Honeycomb. I've searched through all the settings but haven't stubled across anything to turn it back on. Thanks to the addition of folders though I now no longer really need it - the bulk of the stuff I regularly use is neatly stored in folders on my home page.

Charging over USB still works the same for me, but it is terribly slow. I would need a pretty long snack to see 3% added to my battery. I have the "Battery Monitor Widget" app that keeps a history of charge / discharge rates. I didn't notice any change in charging or discharging that lines up with my upgrade to ICS. Some owners have reported a change, but after examining the histograms I can confidently say on my tablet there is no difference in power usage or recharge rate with ICS.

Same here...all my constantly used apps and widgets are on my one screen. I disabled the other 4 screens and now I just tap for what I need, so I don't need to flip at all.
:D

Yes it's very slow...not sure about the time it took though, so perhaps it was longer or the percentage wasn't that much. I don't actually charge my Tab via USB anyway, so it doesn't matter to me.

I concur.

I've never charged via USB, so can't give an opinion on it.
I also noticed the lack of the "tap-the-edge-to-change-screen" gesture.
I really liked it but I have everything I need on my home screen and plenty of room for more.
I also use the Nova launcher which is really FAST.

Cool, I'll look into the folder option and the launcher.

I've now better determined my issue. My tablet won't charge unless I turn it completely off and then start charging it. Regardless of whether I do it from USB or the power adapter. I think I'm gonna have to contact Samsung on that one.

Thanks to all for taking the time to help out. :)

Surprised you can't charge unless you turn the tab off.
On occasion I'll charge it while I'm using it.
It charges more slowly, of course, but it still charges.

.......... My tablet won't charge unless I turn it completely off and then start charging it. Regardless of whether I do it from USB or the power adapter........

Make sure you use the high output USB charge plug .... all 120v plug in, USB chargers are not created equal. The rated output is higher .... big difference in charge time.

I think I did something wrong when I started my upload.
After reading some forums and other things online, it looks like I should have been using Kies to install. I did not even have my computer tethered to my tab. It ran through some of the update rebooted... and now it is stuck at a boot screen saying it is updating some APK files.

I have tried to hard reset from there but when I enter bootmode it only asks me to cancel the download or root it. I don't know how to root so I have not tried that. I have tried to cancel and it just takes me to another boot screen that says it is downloading and is ready for ODIN. I downloaded ODIN but don't know what to do there either..

Kies will not recognize my tab either.. probably because it is in an updating APK bootloop. Some one please help me.. I don't even want the update anymore - just my tab back. Please don't tell me its bricked.

Sounds like you have CWM or another Recovery program installed? If so, that could be the cause of your issues.
I downloaded ODIN but don't know what to do there either..
ODIN should be able to flash the ICS firmware and get your Tab working. Try downloading the ICS file for your model and locale, then follow these instructions:

Upgrade the Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7510 to Android 4.0.4 ICS build UELPL

Make sure you select the right firmware file before proceeding!

This process works for both the P7510 WiFi model and the P7500 3G model (which I have). I can confirm that it works and I have upgraded to the UK/Italy locale ICS v4.0.4 without issues (I chose to setup as a UK English model). I did a factory reset to wipe the tablet and start fresh after updating as there are a lot of changes to the system that you won't see if you simply upgrade - there are a lot of graphical changes in the default configuration. ICS is a big improvement for the Tab 10.1 and is like getting a newer model. I've been a happy camper for months now.
:)
