[ICS] What happened to 4g signal strength bar indicators?

This may have been addressed elsewhere, but after the ICS update the 4g signal strength indicators were replaced with an up/down stream arrow animation. Is there a way to get the signal strength indicators back? They were never that accurate, but I'd still like to have some.

I get the arrows moving up & down, then an X because 4G is not very good in Atlanta area (not even at the Sprint store) and nonexistent at my house. Even with an Airave, no 4G but that is by design by Sprint. If I think about it, I resent paying for 4G that I can't use but that is the way it is.
Before the ICS there was a different icon but 4G has been so sporadic I had not noticed before you mentioned it.

The problem for me is that I am in the Los Angeles area and there is strong 4g signal all over the area, it's still spotty and inconsistent, but there are hotspots of wimax strength in many places. One of the indicators was the signal strength indicator shown next to the 4g, and it tracked well. Usually when those indicators showed more 4g bars, my connection was stronger and downloads were faster.

After the ICS update 4g connection speeds have been reduced dramatically, I have hit up to 11mbps download speed before

That was rare, but usually when I was in a strong spot I could his the 8mbps range. After the ics update I have barely been breaking 1.1mbps, that is pathetic. It could be due to increased wimax traffic, could be due to some added limits sprint placed on data usage to purposely slow down the network, but I have had better, and I want more transparency in speeds and ICS broke that with the 4g signal indicator.

I tried a third party indicator but it lists the 3g signal strength, that may be misnamed, but I just don't know.
