If I cancel a line... what happens to the number??

I have a line that the contract is up and I am just paying month to month on it.

When I cancel the line what happens to the number?

If I add a new line at the same time of canceling the line, can I keep the same number as stated in the question above or will I have to use a new number?

If I cancel that line that is on a family plan, what happens to the other line on the family plan that has unlimited data?

The reason of adding a new line instead of upgrading is I can save $120 on the note 2 that I want to get starting a new line instead of upgrading. I just dont want to lose the number. Not sure if I can port a line from verizon to verizon.

When I cancel the line what happens to the number? Unless you port it out, it's held for a while in limbo, and then recycled back out to be reassigned to another Verizon user in your area. Dunno how long limbo lasts, but not very long given how many debt collectors call for someone other than me whenever I get a new number.

If I cancel that line that is on a family plan, what happens to the other line on the family plan that has unlimited data? You should be able to choose an individual plan for it of the same "flavor" as the original family plan, so if you had Nationwide, you'll get to choose from the Nationwide single line plans.

It's going to be hard to do this unless you port your number out to Google Voice, or out to another provider and then back into Verizon over the new number you're assigned.

1. It all depends on the phone number. Is it an original number with VZW or was it ported in from another provider. If your number is original VZW number it will go into an aging status for about a month and then recycled to someone else. If the number was ported into VZW, once the line is disconnected the # will go back to the original service provider.

2. If the # is an original phone number with vzw you can have the phone # line disconnected and have the # reserved on your account for another line of service. You can only reserve a telephone # on your account that is out of contract.

3. Other lines are ind of the line in question.

YES you can move # from one line to another. # just has to be out of contract and an original number with VZW.

Aweome. That is exactly what I wanted to here. Yes it is a original verizon # and yes it is off contract.

Thx

So if I have two out-of-contract lines, I can effectively move my unlimited data from one number to the other? This isn't what I've read on other forums, but I think it would be nice to be able to do.

Have you heard of people being able to do that, or does unlimited data throw some kind of kink in the works?

If you're paying month to month and don't have contact time remaining on either line I believe this is possible according to the guy I spoke with from tier 2 tech support.
If you still have time remaining on contract, use the GV method of porting number out and back in on a different line.
