If The US Needed a Better Excuse To Abolish The Electoral College...

Yup, your system is about as crooked as ours, with the Government constantly changing constituency boundaries, in their favour.
Proportional representation anyone? Oh wait, we voted against that too!

I for one, think the Electoral College system needs to be abolished.

Once upon a time, before the Internet, it was hard for a lot of folks to get educated on the issues.

no so much anymore, and the popular vote ought to be the determining factor now.

Of course, the purpose of the electoral college in the mind of the founding fathers was specifically to ensure that something as crucial as the presidency could never be subject to the will of great unwashed ;)

Most were entirely opposed to universal suffrage as they didn't think the masses could be trusted with important decisions.

After Brexit, I'm beginning to see their point

Yes!!!
Quite honestly, after listening to people give their reasoning for voting the way they did, which frankly, most of which either made no sense whatsoever, or was based on extremely bigoted views, I think there should be a minimum level of understanding of the issues being voted on, before someone is allowed to vote.

Brexit
drumpf winning GOP nominee...

before this year.. I was against the electoral system... I wanted a direct vote to the presidency.
but now.. I am very very bigly disappointed in the populace grasp of fact gathering skills and critical thinking skills.

if this election is close... it only highlights an issue that I did not know existed.
size of the tin-hat wearing .. mis-informed... confused.. deplorables.

I am leaning towards... the current need of a electoral system..
to insulate us from the deplorables

If we did a popular vote, then New York, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Illinois will always be the states picking our president. If we were able to get rid of the 2 party system and somehow stop the media from campaigning their pick, get to have about 10 people who get equal money and time to campaign then i would be for a popular vote.

Brexit... I don't have a horse in this race and don't have all the details.
but from what I do know.. a lot of the voters wanted to break free from this group..
to stop immigration... stop the flood of immigrants.
which was huge over-exaggeration of the issue to create fear..

same as drumpf creating all kinds of fears.. to scare the population to vote for him.
scary immigrants
scary Mexicans
scary Muslims
scary emails
scary media
.... etc....

and yes.. I also don't like the EC system. I believe the technology can do it..
I had believed the normally educated could reasonably see fiction vs fact.. from rumors vs proof.. form lies vs truth.

but ... I am sad to say...
i might have lost faith in us as a group.
my faith would be restored of .. if tRump looses by a huge bigly margin.

Not to start an argument over the merits of one vs the other, but the lady has a long convoluted trail of misdeeds and rightfully should be standing in front of a jury, not in line for POTUS. It don't really matter what I think, the will of the masses will tell us which one is POTUS in just about 6 hours.

I am white, straight, married, working, christian upbringing, Midwestern. All the things Trump claims to stand for, yet somehow I feel alone this morning.

I don't blame the system, I blame the players, this is the democratic party's fault, they pushed Clinton down America's throat and this was the outcome. They puked up Trump. I am not hardline for either party I usually vote with my conscience and there was no good option this year. There could have and should have been one.

Seems like Clinton stood for everything the voters hate about the political establishment. What the hell were they thinking putting her up as the candidate?

I switched from the Democratic Party to the Red side of the fence when I realized that the blue boys have been doing everything that is wrong with this country.

how in the world, could the democratic leaders not foreseen that there would be such an uproar over anything Clinton? both of them have been tainted for the last 4 decades of service. how do you acquire such massive wealth if the only thing in your life you have done is "community service"??

those are not high paying jobs by any stretch of the imagination.
Arrogance and thinking they could run roughshod over the American Public is what it was.... and they very nearly accomplished it..... thank the lord it failed....

IMO, the Trumps will be much better for the USA... maybe not brilliant, but better.

well... there is the point... those that saw drumpf as the totally wrong option...
but saw Hillary as a bad choice (not as bad as drumpf)...

so they voted their conscience... for someone else all together...
and help the orange troll become POTUS.

that is just one way to see it!.

the EC.. I hoped would fall on their sword for the good of the country....
and voted blue... even though the state voted red.

well.. we will all see how this goes .. 4 yrs and ticking.

to be honest.
I hope that I am WRONG. and drumpf does not do ass much harm as I fear.

Um.. Isn't this about the Electoral College?

all threads go sideways, because things entered along the way from the "post office" got changed and then we reply to the one post.

I took an hour to create a "correct and meaningful" post in a thread a few minutes ago, and when I hit "submit" got an error, the "thread was closed"..... and rightfully so.

I moderate a forum, and watching for threads that goes sideways is a constant job. the moderator will never please 100% of the users, he/she will always irritate someone by policing or NOT policing something that was said.... I try to ignore the minor things that are said, the users will normally "fix it" and keep things on track.

The Salary for moderators is greatly overlooked.... I don't know a single one, anywhere, who has ever received a paycheck. It is all volunteer work from a passion for the forum....

we watch people get irked and leave. We watch folks come in, get their one serious problem solved, and then don't have the courtesy to come back and reply that "it is fixed", nor do they thank anyone for helping them.

a lot of folks do reply that their problem is solved, and those are the ones who keep us going.
