If this doesn't anger you, you're not paying attention...

Well, this could have possibly gone in the political subforum, and I won't object if TPTB want to move it there, but I thought it could use a wider audience.

Quick round of applause by anyone who likes robocalls...

Yeah, we all hear the crickets, right?

Well, businesses are lobbying congress to RELAX the rules about robocalls at a time when everyone else thinks they should be strengthened (recent news story here).

This kind of thing really angers me, and it exposes one of the flaws in our system of government, that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Lobbyists go to Washington and tell them how beneficial something would be, if that's all they hear then it often gets passed, particularly if it doesn't cost "the government" anything and even moreso if a tidy little "contribution" comes with it. Thus, it's important for the little people to share our thoughts so that they at least get some more manner of a balanced picture. ;)

So if you care about this debacle, er, debate, contact your representatives. You can use the site below to enter your zip and it will show you your senators as well as the representative for your area, then you can type out your text, enter your personal information (name, address, etc) and it will let you preview and send the emails directly.

You can use this at any time to send email correspondence to your reps as well, but this seems as good a topic as any. ;)

done:

It has come to my attention that Commercial Entities are pushing for REDUCED Legislation in the matter of RoboCalls.... ie, commercials to any phone, whether that be a Land Line, or a private Cellphone that costs me $$$$ when I receive a call.

This is highly unconscionable, and disregards my right to privacy with my own private phone.
I pay for this phone, and it for me to use, not to be bombarded with a lot of commercials to buy insurance, or sell me Viagra to rejuvenate my lost sex drive...

I beg of you to please give this a lot of attention, and to disregard all applications from the Money Mongers who wish to Donate millions of dollars into the bank accounts of some of our dirty legislators... I am proud of our Oklahoma legislatures, they have all been fighting for me....

I am retired and at 73, no longer have any patience for a ringing telephone, unless it is my children.

Yeah this kind of stuff is getting old. Even though we all know the system is rigged against us you don't like getting such stark reminders of it all the time.

The "No Call" list is a joke. Adding your name to the list does absolutely nothing to slow down the onslaught of calls.

I submitted a letter as well.

RoboCallers don't consult "No Call Lists", I have asked some live callers if they have noted that my number is a 'No Call" number..... none of the bastards even knew what it was.

Definitely believe it! They call me @ 8:30pm on a Saturday and I told them "b!tch, it's past 8PM here!" (FL) They said oh we're in another state (CA?) and it's not that late here, so anyways...."

The only automated calls I want are either appointment reminders from doctors or home service calls.

If there is a live person on the other end, I like f%^&&%ing with them until they give up. I especially like it when they finally realize that I'm wasting their time and they curse me out. :D I've noticed since I started doing that, the calls are less frequent!

On the rare occasion when we get a cold call I play with them. I stop them in their tracks, and ask for the details of their company. Then I explain in minute detail how the TPS works, and that they are breaking the law by calling me, and by the way, I will be reporting them. One guy shouted at me that I was wasting his time. Haha!
In the UK we have the TPS (telephone preference service). Some say it doesn't work, but since I registered we get virtually no cold callers, and junk mail has ceased too.

I'm sure they don't. If they admitted to it they would be admitting that they knew they were breaking the law. Of course, they don't care about that either... :)

Oh come on! You people know that those no-call lists where sold off as potential customer lists. When I create a new phone # , no one ever calls it, but the minute I subscribe to a no-call list I get many solicitation calls. Definitely not a co-incidence. All related to little loop holes in campaign supporter definitions. So Bob is running in district 9 because he plans on giving the aliens there a 1% raise so their children's children might have a chance to work at a factory for minimum wage, but the loophole also allows bobs campaign contributors to also call you and throw in an advert or two because they are supporting so and so. Moral of the story is just don't tell anyone your number and don't sign up for lists. Random cold calls happen, also called war dialing from the sales dept., but you can stop it with an out of service recording.
