So, I added a new line to a family plan in May, which costs 9.99 a month. I activated an old, used phone we had already in the house on the new plan. Now I wanted to upgrade that line to an android phone, and apparently I have to wait until November 2011 to upgrade. Did the person do this wrong? We did not buy a phone with the new line, we just bought the line for 9.99 a month, and activated a phone we already had. There shouldn't have been a new contract, should there have been? Please help.

I've got 4 lines with Verizon.. If you just 'activated' a new line and didn't purchase a phone at a discount (a contract price), then NO, you shouldn't be in contract on THAT line.

If you want to add a DATA ENABLED phone (android) to that line, you will have to pay for data package plan. You should be able to get a new android phone at a discount by 'upgrading' this line to a 2 year term.

Just activating an old phone on a new line is NOT committing yourself to a contract.
