If you use an alternate launcher, do you lose the manufacturer's features?

I assume if I use an alternate launcher, I would lose access to Sense features like long-pressing and dragging up to the top of the screen to remove an app or widget from the home screens, and things like that that seem integrated into HTC's custom UI, but would you lose other features that aren't quite UI-related, like the new stuff in the S4, like Air Gestures and all that stuff?

I know TouchWiz features would be gone, but are these other features considered a part of TouchWiz, or are they separate features that remain active with other launchers?

Thanks.

another launcher does not replace your old launcher. it just uses it as a deafault launcher. you can return back to the default launcher by simply uninstaling the new one or clearing its chache.

Anyways i sugest you try Apex or Nova or ADW most of them have free versions.
Use the launcher a bit and try it out and find the features you are looking for.
Having a diferent launcher than Stock is not scary.

PS: most launchers use the drag to recicle bin to delete (usualy at the top or bottom)

I know I won't lose the other launcher, but while the alternate launcher is the default, do you lose access to the features I referred to?

not sure what feature your phone has but its likely that you will not be able to use those features on an alternative launcher.

on my phone, i cannot use stock apps widgets on Holo launcher. but i found an alternative way.

Alternate launchers often bring in their own set of features and these features often mimic features from manufacturer launchers. For example, Apex, ADW launcher and Launcher Pro include a feature to long-press and drag to the top of the screen to remove an item from the screen.

Third-party launchers often have features that the manufacturer launchers lack - Apex launcher (and probably others) allows you to set the number of rows and columns on the home screens. The new Motorola launcher doesn't have such a feature.

The best thing to do is to install a third-party launcher and see what it does and doesn't allow. You can always go back to the default launcher if needed.
