I'm Not A Nervous Flyer, But...

Yet there were no injuries to passengers and crew that I've heard of.

Hrm, that particular picture looks 'shopped.

Phew that looks hectic!

I am glad no one got hurt...

Talking about flights and these thingies... I have a question.... do cats always land on their feet?

From the photos I've seen on the ground, none of the compressor vanes are missing so it looks like just the cowling came off. Had the vanes come loose, it would have shredded the whole engine and made a delightful mess of everything.

while it does look bad, it was NOT the engine that came apart, it is part of the cowling....
the investigators will track this down to a mechanic, who will loose his job....
"most likely"

it is possible that a worn fastener came loose, but there again, a mechanic did not find it in the maintenance process..... that all said, airplanes have millions of screws and fasteners, and most of them are hidden from normal view.

oh, I am a professional reviewer, I have over 1000 hours in my own Private Airplane that I owned and flew for 6 years, before the babies came along, and momma wanted a house

Yeah, it didn't remind of the older version because the photo above is in color. ;)
JK. I did say "The Movie". Got called on it anyhow. Where is old Bill these days anyway? Probably living it up on a beach somewhere, girl under each arm:rolleyes:

There is an episode of Third Rock where the Big Giant Head comes to visit; it is the first episode where we actually see BGH, and the character is played by Bill Shatner.

So the alien mode of travel is to beam into airliner bathrooms or something, and the "family" is waiting at the airport for their great leader.

The BGH comes out and immediately starts talking about this thing on the wing, and Lithgow's character jumps in and says "you saw it too!"

Hilarious if one is familiar with both versions ...

Yeh, Boeing 737-800 I think.

This is the one I was on last week.

And the engine nacelles still looked the same when we landed. :thumbsupdroid:

I believe there's more 737s flying round than any other aeroplane type. BTW, I hear they're also going to be making them in China now.

Yeah, I imagine many of you also have a mental scrapbook of other bad ones too, over the years. This one really sticks with me, partly because it (almost) ended so well, where others unfortunately don't. Could have been a lot worse........But those people sure had a lot of time on their hands to think about what might happen next.

There aren't many new movies I care about, and I know it'll be a "dramatization".......But Tom Hanks usually attaches himself to good stuff; Clint Eastwood too. I may actually see "Sully" in theatres. Again, partly for the mostly happy ending, "coulda' been worse" factor.
