I'm replacing my BYOD with the same device

My Nexus 5 screwed up and no longer turns on. I ordered a new one.
I have some questions.
Can I activate the new phone by myself using the SIM card the old phone has or do I have to go to a dealer and have them do that?
And will I receive my texts on my new phone?

Thanks guys!

You can do it online or by calling in. You just can't pop the sim in. Not sure what you mean by receive your texts. Yes once you have you new phone up and running it will receive text messages

Yeah, I know it's just not, "the SIM is in my phone, it should work." I just wasn't sure if I was allowed or able to do it online.

And what I meant about the texts is will I receive texts that I won't be receiving because I have no working device at the moment, will those pop into the new device. I hope that made sense.

Thanks for the reply!

Unless Metro changed their practice, you will not be able to activate the phone online as that is currently reserved for Metro branded phones only. A 5 minute phone call will have you set up and ready to go without costing you any money. timmy is spot on about the texts.
