imap folders in gmail

I've just got my HTC Desire and configured it all as standard i.e. followed the install walkthough. It is now up and running but I've noticed within my GMAIL account some IMAP folders have arrived, these are new folders
Imap/Drafts
Imap/Sent
Imap/Trash

all emails that are used on the phone now arrive with one of these labels on. I tried changing the titles of these within GMAIL but then it sets up the Imap ones again. anyone know if I can either get the phone to stop doing this, or if I can change the label?

I went into gmail on the web, and removed those labels. You can remove them from the "labels" section of your account settings.

I was having the same issue. From what I can tell, the folders are created by the HTC Mail App. The Gmail App does not create them. The HTC Mail creates them because by default its protocol is set up as IMAP and not POP. To change this, go into the HTC Mail Settings, select Account Settings, confirm the displayed account by clicking Next and in the next screen use the Protocol menu to switch from IMAP to POP. Then just back out and you are all set. You can delete the IMAP folders now from within Gmail and they shouldn't reappear.
