Root Implications of locked bootloader(Defy) for modding and CM9?

About to buy a Defy, I want to know how the locked bootloader affects its modding capabilities for now and in future. I see CM7.1 supports it, and though the rooting and flashing takes a few more steps than unlocked phones, it is very much doable.

But what about CM9 and beyond? Will we not see Defy support on CM9 because of the locked bootloader?

its always quiet. people just dont want to help. im not sure its a bad thing to have a locked bootloader it makes the phone almost unbrickable but yes it means the devs have to work a little bit harder to work around it. i think if the demand is there they'll build it, like with cm7 in the first place. they didnt make a defy version, then quarx did his work on it and now there is an official version. im sure they will if its wanted. i know its not a specific answer but the only people who know for sure will be cyanogenmod.

Thanks for the reply. I've bought Defy, seeing as how much quarx is into it at. Atleast cm9 is pretty much guaranteed, considering the huge community of Defy users, and also new Defy plus.

no worries. there is definitely a cm9 for defy but they are in beta at the moment. there is a version for download if you google it but if you have the green lens i would wait cuz they havent got the camera working yet.

There are green lens Defy & red lens. some things won't work properly on earlier green lens. It's a case of walking before we can run. Most people here I'm sure are just happy to have root & the extras that root gives.

sounds stupid but have you made sure they are all compatible roms TheUnlockr | Archive | Motorola Defy ROMs you can find some here. if they are compatible then did you give them enough time to boot, a first boot can sometimes take quite a long time.
