Importing contacts at Sprint store

After two hours on the phone with a hard-working Sprint tech guy, we had no success in getting access to my contacts, uploaded to Sprint's online backup from my old Samsung flip phone.

He tells me I must drive to the Sprint store (an hour from my house) and they will connect both phones to a device and import the contacts.

OK, I'm game for that, but here's the question...

Will importing contacts on the Sprint store device ADD those contacts to the ones already on my new LG Optimus S, or will it REPLACE them?

They should be able to merge all contacts, so long as they have the right settings on the device at the Sprint store.

If you set up a GMail account on your Optimus you can have the phone's current contacts backed up wirelessly. So if they do something stupid at the Sprint store that erases your phone's current contacts you will still have them online and well be able to restore them to your phone.
