Help Importing from phone to SIM seems broken

Not sure if Im posting this in the correct place, not even sure I selected the correct title as Im looking for support but not giving it and Im not sure which one of those two it means. Admins feel free to edit that if needed and place this in the correct place.

Anyway, I just got a new SIM and wanted to import from phone to SIM when Im presented with see screen.
Seems somewhere along the updates this function was broken, or did I miss something? Im not able to press anything else but "Cancel", which naturally does nothing and copies nothing. Does anyone else have this problem? Tried both copying all at once, and just a single, none worked.

Export contacts to SIM. Some phones have this feature, like my Huawei does, and my Samsung doesn't.

This is a Huawei Mate 10 with Android 9, and it does have Export contacts to SIM.

It sounds like the manufacture of your phone may have removed this feature with their update. As I don't know what phone you've got there, I can't say for sure.

Since we aren't connected to Google at all, just a forum for users, you can't really make suggestions or give feedback on android here. This section is for suggestions and feedback about the forum itself.

You don't say what phone you have, which is important as different models and different software versions may have different options. But to me it looks like the issue is that your phone doesn't have the option to "import" to the SIM. Personally I'd have tried exporting to the SIM - in my experience you import to the phone and export from it. But where are the contacts you are trying to import currently?

I might note that not all phones can export contacts to the SIM any more. My 2 year old Pixel never had that option, though older phones had.

Why do you wish to copy them to the SIM anyway? Unless you actually swap your SIM between handsets there's no real advantage - if you want a backup nd don't want to give the data to Google you can back up by exporting to a VCARD file and copying that somewhere safe, and SIM contacts are much more limited in what information they can store. Just saying this as it's possible you don't have the option so thinking about alternatives.
 
Terrible wording by me, I ended up even confusing myself in the end and worded it wrongly, so sorry for the confusion! What I meant was importing from the old sim to the phone so I can export from the phone to the new sim afterwards. I needed to import the contacts from the old sim and that was the screen I got. Anyway it turned out that pressing the bubble itself instead of cancel did the trick without notifying me that it had been done, it worked out a day after the initial attempt. But I couldve sworn that I tried pressing the bubble back then too and it didnt work, I checked several times by setting display settings to only show sim and nothing was shown, I know I tried that. Maybe the manufacturer did a silent update or something, dont even know if that exists, or maybe Im just talking out of my ass. Just to check I just now tried exporting to the phone from the new sim card (keep in mind that Ive managed to get it over to the new sim now and deleted the contacts on the phone) and delete the contacts on the new sim again to see if Ill get the same problem when trying to import them back to the new sim. And I did, the same screen was presented when wanting to import from phone. But as I said hitting the bubble itself (now) works even though it still just gives the cancel button.

As for this being a forum not affiliated with the android devs themselves I was not aware though I did suspect but it was worth a try to at least get some thoughts not to mention see if anyone else had the same problem. Its not always clear how tight of a cooperation a well done forum like this has with the devs/manufacturers or if there even is any, I got the impression there was. Once again sorry to have bothered you all, but Ill add that there was initially a problem at hand and the confirmation screen still only has the cancel button rather than an confirm button too.

EDIT: Im fine and dandy now however. Wont be asking neither devs nor Huawei about it.

No worries! This forum exists for any and all Android users--even prospective Android users, and the occasional iPhone user--to ask questions about Android. And to share their experience and knowledge, too.

No question is a bother. Please participate freely, whether with questions, or advice, or just chit-chat about non-Android topics. It's a cool place to hang out! :)
 
Thanks! As for the backup Hadron, that was why yes. But Ive had phones break suddenly before and dont wanna risk not having updated my backup in a long time when it suddenly happens again. Besides I dont need more info bout someone than a name and a number :)
 
Glad it's working for you.

I do my backups by exporting my contact book to a vcard file then copying it to a computer (which I then back up separately). That way I can always restore it to another phone (android or otherwise), a computer (any platform), or even one of my old PDAs from the 90s (if I emulate a system old enough that their sync software will run on it ;)). And I don't have to put up with the limitations of SIM contacts (either information stored or number of contacts). Of course I can also sync contacts with Google, but I never believe in relying on some corporation so even where I do use their backups I also keep my own independent ones.

Plus my current phone doesn't have the option to export to the SIM, so that solution wouldn't work for me anyway ;).

The problem is though, that these forums host obvious parasites like this:

Go to recent activity and check out the obvious phishing links. On top the person has been a member for 8 years and virtually never posted anything allthough the profile links keep getting updated, and the person keeps adding new follows every day, just in a few days now shes added 40 new follows. Why? Ill tell you why, to have ppl going "hmmm I wonder who this is?", click on the profile, find the links under recent activity and then press them to have all their browser info, cookies, ip, ports scanned, and who knows what more taken...

And when you report them for their obvious phishing noting is done... I find it creepy hanging around in forums where security is the last priority :(

When you see something like this, report it. That will get the person deleted.

(BTW I'm just going to do that for you)

In all likelihood, those sex/spam/phishing/bullshit things you were seeing were not from the real member--whose legitimate posting history ended in 2011.

Much more likely that someone hijacked that long-dead account--which really is a thing--and used it for nefarious purposes.

Trust me, the staff--which I used to be a member of--really does care about this forum, and does their best to keep scum out...but it's a never-ending battle... :rolleyes:
