Importing media from SD card

I have some audio/video files in the sd card and I want to import it into my phone memory. To be specific, i want to see the image files in my Gallery application instead of navigating through an Explorer or ThinkFree Office.

I could import the contacts easily but there's no import/export option in Gallery or Music player.

This is a LG P500 Optimus, Android 2.2

The internal memory of the phone is already quite limited, and besides, you need to be rooted.
If you use a dedicated media player (like MixZing) you should be able to open your media directly from that application.
