Impressions of G3

I currently have a Galaxy S, and am thinking about upgrading. I THINK I want the S3, but don't really want to spend $200. I almost got a HTC One X today, but was dissuaded by the lack of a memory card slot.

So, for those of you who have the S3, is it worth twice the HTC? I'm hoping that the GPS bugs and things form the original are worked out.

I myself have the SG3 and a co worker have the X One, so far i cant say i regret getting the SG3, the One X is quite boring to look at compared to my pebble blue, the screen doesnt have the same feel as the SG3, but the biggest reason i chose not to get the One X is the fact that it gets pretty insanely hot, my SG3 gets warm, but man that One X, pretty sure you could fry bacon on it (not sure if thats bad or good tho).

I have not had problems with the GPS, other than the phone getting a bit toasty when used for a long period of time.

The One X and SG3 cost pretty much the same when i bought it, so if you can get the One X for half the price, im not really sure.

Go to the store and try em out, pick what feels right :)

Yeah, did that today. Problem is, I'm torn (and a cheapskate). If the HOX had a memory card slot, I'd have bought it at $100. If the S3 were $150, I'd have bought it. But with the S3 still at $200, that's a tough pill to swallow.

I spent 600 off contract to get this phone and besides my battery life issue It's by far the best phone I've ever owned.

lol thinking of doing the same... to keep my unlimited with Verizon.

I did, w/ tax & everything for the 32GB is was just over $ 700.00. Happy to say I'd do it again !! Love this phone !! :date:

I faced the same dilemna as you, but then Walmart lowered their price to $148 and I price matched at Best Buy. For $49 there was no longer any question and I returned the One X. No regrets. At $100 diff it was a tough call; the HOX is a nice phone. The screen was a little brighter although unlike some I didn't see a huge difference in sharpness, and colors are better on the S3. The easiest way to to see this is compare blacks between the two screens.

Beyond that, there are a more features on the S3, even if some of them are more show than function.

Still, if you go for the HOX I certainly would not think you made a poor decision; both are great phones.

Oh... And GPS is like everything else on the S3 - fast (know what you mean about issues as I had the Captivate for 2 years).

Hope that helps.

You can get the phone from Newegg for $150.

This forum is going to give you good advice, but ultimately will always say at the end that the S3 is the better choice. If you want some unbiased opinions, the One X is attractively priced and HTC Sense UI is excellent. Also most people consider the One X build "quality" better then an S3. Mostly because of the plastic Samsung uses.

But the features the S3 has are nice, and the hardware on this phone are top of the market. Considering Jelly Bean gets on this device, it should be a phone that will keep anyone happy for a long time.

I bought 2 Galaxy S3s because they are that good, one for me and one for my mom, $680 USD each for a total of $1360 USD and you say $200 USD is too much to pay? you guys in the US / Europe are lucky to have such deals we hear in Dubai are raped with prices but we still buy them coz the phone is THAT good.

IF you find $200 too much to pay for the best phone ever created until this date, then this phone is not for you definitely

I will clear up what seems to be a pretty common misconception. Both phones are made out of the same plastic, or polycarbonate. Seen it in a few threads now

The GS3 is made of HyperGlaze...cough cough...Cheap plastic.

Yes the One X stomps the GS3 in the build quality department. But its a real toss up whether your preference is Touch Whiz or Sense.

I believe that the top coat is HyperGlaze, yes, but pretty sure that it's a coating on top of polycarbonate.

Wish it was the same matte material as the One X ...Ohh well, hopefully someone comes out with a matte battery door cover.

If you are on a budget why not get a Galaxy S2 and update it to ICS? There's not a huge amount of difference between them if you do that.

I went to Korea to get it and spent around 750$. I bought it the day it was out and I never regretted it. Thomas

The question to ask yourself is this: would you be happy paying $200 for the S3 if the One X was also $200?

It seems to me you're gutted that the S3 isn't as cheap as the One X, not that it is expensive in itself. You obviously appreciate that you prefer the S3, but think that the One X is a bargain.

Congratulations. You cannot lose. Whichever you choose, you will have made a good choice. But you should get the S3 ;)

Aside from the $148 walmart price, I saw radio shack had the s3 for $149 along with several online stores selling them for $150? Surely the $200 for the s3 is not a factor...

Just get the freakin GS3 and quit micro-analyzing what is a "DEAL" or not. Go get one of the $150 options and quit worrying about spending that extra $50. What is 50 bucks over your lifetime anyway.

In 18 months you'll be happy that you can pop open the GS3 and throw in a brand new battery if the old one is getting weak. Can't do that on your One X.

If out were $50 I would, but I'm with AT&T and the store I was at Saturday wouldn't price match. I do plan on trying another store.

Didn't know that about the battery on the one x, though. That's another strike against it.
