Improve gesture typing performance?

Android 8, improving gesture typing accuracy? I've had my Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom for a little over a year and I'm not very happy with the gesture typing results I get on the phone. I'm on Android 8, using the built-in ZenUI keyboard. What I find is the gesture typing (zooming between the letters and lifting your finger from the screen once word is complete) gives terrible guesses, often substituting very uncommon words for common ones. I don't know if there's some way to improve the performance?

It's not always possible to use voice-to-text and that system also makes bad guesses when it comes to local place names etc. I absolutely hate single letter typing, when I have to resort to that it takes me a while to peck out the letters and the small letters on the screen result in inaccurate letters.

If you decide to try other keyboards, I've used and loved Hacker's Keyboard for many years, and highly recommend it.

Note that I can't vouch for its ability to do any of what you're after, as I don't use those features. But it has a lot of settings, so it may be worth a look.

It's an excellent keyboard. :)
