What are your views on in game purchases?

I'm not against them when they add something to the game, like levels or characters, but to many developers are now going down the route where they make a game almost impossible to play unless you do buy in game items!

So i'm for it, so long as its used correctly and of course the plus side is you can get full games free because of it.

Anything that doesnt show up under My Apps once purchased I'm not going to touch, simple as that.

Lol I HATE IT! and i hope every dev see's this thread! Please stop with that crap or people wont purchase your games!

I think in-app purchases are great addition to games. I will pay for additional stages only if I enjoyed the few available free ones. And I also know that a lot of people pay to remove ads (I'm not one of them, though).. But overall, as long as it's useful and enhances my gameplay experience, I think IAP are fantastic!!

I don't mind paying for additional content if it is by choice. I am not a fan of games where you must buy additional content to finish the game. I've seen some games that are crazy hard unless you buy additional content, that I am not too fond of. However paying for something that enriches the gameplay is great IMO.

I'm 100% with you on this one Yeahha. It seems many of these sim city type games do this, gameplay being extremely slow unless items are brought! (paradise Island springs to mind)

Some interesting results so far tho. Personally I prefer a game I pay for outright where ads are removed. These games tend to have proper in game purchases that only enhance the game rather than act as a cash cow!

+1 It seems like some devs figure they can make a game that is free but has in app purchases that gets too hard to play after half an hour then you buy something that makes it easy for another hour at which point you need to buy something else and the cycle goes on.

I would rather just need to buy an app with 1 purchase as well instead of the pay to play model that has evolved. I like the way Xplane is set up where you buy the app and you get 6 planes and 5 landscape I think, then you can buy additional planes and landscapes for $1 each at your choice. You don't have to buy any additional content but if you want to you can.

Indeed and must be a nightmare for parents as there is noway to stop kids buying stuff in game with just 2 or 3 presses of a button!!

Personally I feel there should be some form of control put in place on the market place to password protect it to stop this happening and that all developers should sign up to a code of conduct, much like on the xbox 360 so as to not rip off the consumer.
