In love with Adroid... help me choose my first device?

What I really want is:
-Ability to customize my home screens (similar to HTC hero)
-QWERTY keypad
-good camera
-possibility of future updates ( I don't want a device that will be forgotten about after 1 update)
-processor/ ram speed!!
-NAM 3g networks


I have bought a Milestone, hasn't arrived in the mail yet. But after watching some reviews on the Hero... I'm in love with the customization and widgets.

Can the milestone do everything the HTC hero can? I'm talking about different sized widgets, different styles, ability to connect to social networking etc..

I chose the milestone based on it's QWERTY keypad, but after hearing that it may not be rootable... I don't think I like that. Plus with the 500mhz processor... will the phone's speed be outdated as newer games and apps come out?

The price tag on the Milestone is something to consider too.. $650, I see a lot of Android phone's with a way lower price tag. And with new snapdragon processors coming out I can see the value of the milestone drop like a rock.

What are your opinions on the best bang for your buck, and lasting the longest?

Whatever you do don't get a Samsung phone. I'm stuck with a Galaxy 7500 running 1.5 (They MIGHT upgrade to 1.6, but past that is doubtful). I feel the Milestone would be a good choice, I hear great things about it at least.

I own a Milestone and it is highly customizable. You have the option to use home replacements from the Market and you can also use various widgets. For social networking you may download Facebook for Android as well as Twidroid/Seesmic for Twitter. Another advantage of the Milestone is that it runs on Android 2.x.

All Android phones can do this, either through flashing custom ROMs or simply installing home replacement apps. Well, that and the basic use of widgets and wallpapers, of course.

-QWERTY keypad
-good camera

The Droid should fulfill both of those requirements.

The Nexus fulfills both requirements splendidly, especially the update issue seeing as it receives updates straight from Google--the latest, greatest and the first in line.

More actually, since it's got better hardware and a newer version of Android. It is certainly rootable, with an active community of developers working with and on it. Can run 2.1 via custom ROM already.

I use an N1, though, so I'm a bit biased and obviously would recommend it over the Droid: the only thing it doesn't do is the hardware keyboard. I understand that despite being on a 500 MHz, it's fairly snappy for what it is, and when rooted, you can even overclock it to about 800 MHz stably.

If a hardware keyboard is a must, you don't have much choice for anything but the Milestone. Otherwise I would recomend the Desire / Nexus One (depending on availability) I presume your not in the US since you don't have the "Droid" (US version of the Milestone)
