Help Incoming calls problem

Lurker
Hi. For some reason, sometimes when people ring me they get my answerphone straight away. This has happened on quite a few occasions when I know I haven't been on the phone and have full signal. It will also hang up as soon as I go to answer it sometimes (when it rings), then won't let me dial out for a bit. Anyone else had any problems or know whats causing this? Could it be because I'm on the Internet at the time, or maybe because my sim is like 4 years old?

Thanks in advance,

Carl.

Your sim is an authentication mechanism - it tells the network who you are and then the network allows you make calls and use data etc. It isn't directly involved in calls or internet access.

If you're on 2G/GSM then you can't do internet and voice at the same time - however your data connection should be interrupted to allow incoming calls. 3G/WCDMA supports both at the same time.

Try forcing "WCDMA only" in the secret information menu - using the dialler type in *#*#4636#*#*, select phone information, and down the bottom you can choose the type of network to use. See if you miss calls like before.
And then force 2G only for a while, and see what happens.

Only leave it in 3G only mode if you always have usable 3G signal - or you will miss lots of calls ;)

Hi. Thanks for the reply, but that still hasn't helped. I put in WCDMA mode only, and I lost all signal. Couldn't get it back till I changed it back to normal and restarted the phone. There is also no 2G only option. The only other option is GSM only. Any other ideas?
Thanks.

GSM is 2G.

My 3rd, yes THIRD G2 is on it's way, would've been here now not for the snow and I've got a tracking number for it. Absolute joke. Both had this problem and constant problem with late texts and hanging connections on 3G. Think I'll sell this bad boy and get something that works...

Yeah I don't blame you. Awesome phone, but no good if it doesnt work as one. I haven't sent mine back, I'm still convinced its a software problem, going to wait for the 2.0 release to come and see if its any better.

OK my third one is here! I've had my SIM in an old Samsung to try and replicate the calls/texts and so far it's been fine. I daren't try the G2 yet, as if the Samsung fails too then it's all T-Mobile and I'll have grounds to cancel my contract.
