Incorrect email count

When all incoming emails are deleted, my Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 constantly indicates that I have minus four!

The recycle bin never goes below four.

On top of that a software update has just failed!

If the only advice I receive is that I should upgrade to an S5, I will assume it is from Bill Gates!

"Recycle bin" on an Android phone? Since when?

Which email app?

Have you cleared the Trash folder in the email app?

The email client is the default that came with the phone.
Nowhere does it give its name.

After marking emails for deletion and deleting them, the recycle bin may be found by depressing the right touch-button. The bottom row of the screen then shows a group of icons. The right hand icon is a folder. Clicking that brings down a menu. the second item up is labelled 'Recycle bin' . That in effect is the 'Trash Folder'. It never goes below four.

On the main screen, the email icon shows a tiny circle with the number of unread emails. When all have been deleted it shows -4.

It may help to say that this was a new phone purchased outright from a lady who won it. It came unlocked direct from Samsung but judging from the non-removable icons it had been configured for Vodaphone. I don't use Vodaphone but the email client might be one of theirs.
