Nah the display on isn't a requirement, just how I have mine set. I like the display to remain on when it's plugged in but in wireless mode it's not recognized as charging so it turns off. So I added a Tasker profile to keep it on. It works although may need some refining.
I'm on the job and had my bag o'stuff with me so I just snipped a small piece of electrical tape to hold the contacts in place. Works perfectly.
Now I need to order more of these things so I can have a couple around the house, and one in the laptop/work bag.
