Inheriting Samaung galaxy S4 from different country

I am about to receive a sumsung galaxy s4 as a gift from someone in England and I live in America. it is nt brand new but previously owned. im aware that I may have to unlock it but will I still be able to use it normally after? and what will unlocking it require?

You 'll need the IMEI number (on a tag beneath the battery), and then provide that info to one of the many online services that provide unlock services. I have seen them on eBay for as little as $6 to as high as $30. After that, it just a matter of going into Settings and entering the APN codes (search for "<your carrier> apn codes").
