Installing apps doubts

Hi,

I'm new to Android and my "new" Archos 5IT falls short in memory (no surprise here). I know there's the root thing but I haven't done that. So... I'm presently installing and uninstalling apps when needed. However I do have by now a couple of questions I would appreciate someone could answer to:

1. Apparently I can only backup the main app files. Backup apps don't "see" data for backup. There is one or two that can read some data liek Backup Pro, but... anyway, I've been chosing apps that can import/export data and it works. My question is: is there any app or way to backup main app+data alltogether?

2. Let's say I have 30MB free. Let's say I want to install Angry Birds (~14MB). If I have the apk file and try to install with an explorer from card, it prompts saying there's not enough room. BUT if I install it from the Market online it installs perfectly and occupies around 14MB of memory. Why is this? Is it related to some cache space the apps need to use to unpack? and if so, is there an app that makes this happen in SDCard instead of main memory?

Thanks for your time.
