Help "insufficient memory" bug - *#9900# not working

running Jellybean 4.1.2 on LG Optimus L7 II P710

I've been experiencing problems downloading apps and other files, and having dug into the issue discovered this go-to solution of using the System Dump, however attempting to use this USSD code results in the following message:

"Connection problem or invalid MMI code"

is there a different code for my device or OS that would work, or an alternative solution to this problem?
 
That code will only work on a Samsung. I think you may need to root your phone to delete those logfiles.
 
Without rooting your phone I don't know if any option but perhaps someone else will see this thread and hopefully have some ideas.
 
Root usually takes some research. See if you can find instructions from a reasonable reputable source for your particular phone and software version. Fwiw, my LG OPTIMUS FUEL was the easiest phone I ever rooted, once the codes were provided for towel root. Took about ten minutes including reboots. I think you might not be as lucky, but check out your device forum (if exists) on af and check out the following thread (xda is usually fairly reputable)

thanks ε: I think rooting looks like the way to go, but what kinds of risks am I likely to be facing with this?

Also, after you root, you may be inclined to tinker with things that can brick your phone. (Those things are not accessible when you're not rooted). But as long as you are careful and follow proven instructions, you should be fine.

thank you, this explains the risks very well.

since I'm not interested in rooting for any other reason than to resolve this issue, I'm wondering if it could instead be solved by simply factory resetting my phone?
 
Yeah, System reset solves a lot of things. Back up your stuff first.

Before you go to that trouble, another easier step to try is clearing cache in recovery

There might be more ideas if you describe your problems with downloading. Are you downloading from a browser? Have you tried other browsers? What error message do you see

thanks, I'll look into the recovery option.

downloading does not work from browser (Chrome/Dolphin) OR Google Play, and I also cannot receive files sent over Skype etc. files CAN be transferred directly from PC by manually placing them into phone folders but that's about it. also I now have an alert telling me "memory is full. cannot receive messages"


EDIT: I'm having trouble accessing recovery mode. any help with this would be greatly appreciated

Oh, sounds like maybe your sd card is full.

What is the size of your internal storage and how much is free?

Try to delete some stuff. If you can manage to download an app, this one is helpful for figuring out what is taking up your storage space
