3 of the CDMA markets will now be shutdown in 2014 instead of 2015 and around 40% of the metropcs customer base is on GSM

Shutting CDMA down early is a stupid move so far as Customers go. The only way to PO the 60% who Still haven't gone GSM Even More is to pull the plug on them even Earlier than you originally said you would.

I KNOW there are customers out there who bought a CDMA based phone AT a Metro store based on knowing they'd be able to use it into 2015. They have every right to be really PO'd when Metro changes the game on them.

I wonder what 3 markets will be shut down sooner? I didn't see that actually listed (although, I was viewing it on my phone and so had to zoom in to even read it, I guess I could very easily have missed it).

For the CDMA markets they are shutting down a year early:

Any word on how they are letting CDMA customers know?

I still have the S3, so this will suck.. Well not really, since the S5 is right around the corner, supposedly, for Metro right?

I agree bruce but late 2013 it was feeling like they were going to rush hard, I figured they were being paranoid. Then these constant fire sales after the other. the merged specturm so hastly merged. Before I seen lg motion everyday now replaced with f3 and exibits kids with huawei and one touchs

When they start turning off the CDMA Early, The Mothership's Faceplant wall is going to Melt Down. ;)

Those Metro Faceplant techs are gonna want to slit their wrists.

Yes very dumb something said in my heart get a gsm and I am so proud I did . I think summer time June thru October that will happen

The Faceplant techs are in Dallas.

(Unlike my experiences with the phone support. I'd agree they are NOT in the U.S.)

looks like i may have to upgrade a little early.

yeah it sucks that the plug will be pulled sooner than expected but oh well. where else am i gonna go to get unlimited everything for $60? i've never had a dropped call even back in the esteem days, the speeds are now excellent, and with BYOD i can buy whatever phone i want and bring it to metro as long as its GSM.

don't know about anyone else but i have no reason to leave. metro is excellent in my neck of the woods.

While we (down here in Dallas) aren't being moved off of CDMA still until next year, I must agree that I've had excellent service since I came to Metro in Feb '11. I see no reason to leave either.

http://m.cnet.com/news/t-mobile-to-shut-off-metropcs-network-in-three-cities-in-2014/57619508

Since the migration to the T-Mobile network is happening faster than anticipated, the company said it plans to shut off service to the old MetroPCS network in three cities by the end of the year: Boston, Las Vegas, and Philadelphia.

Carter said during an interview after the conference call that there should be very little disruption to existing MetroPCS customers. Because the migration is going so well, there are anticipated to be only a small proportion of customers still using a device that operates on the older MetroPCS network in those markets, when the shutdown is complete.

Carter said that customers still left on that network, who haven't yet migrated will be supported through roaming arrangements and T-Mobile is planning more aggressive handset swap-out promotions
------
I guess they'd do call and text roaming on Sprint and you get 4G as usual.

I thought the old roaming under Sprint was 1x data...

this fear was one of the reason i did not get a CDMA Spirit with confirmed 7 mbps speed on LTE. on my nexus 5 i only get 1 mbps on certain hours at night on 3G but it can only get better. thanks to Gman i now know that a tower 2 miles away will be upgraded soon :D.

May I ask a dumb question and please forgive me for asking these questions. I know they getting rid of CDMA towers where do they dispose of this working towers . if you can provide service to millions of devices what do they do with this material.

Now that those towers are done and broken down what will fill those spaces I know each tower is represented by a satilite in space .:D I am so clueless about this .

no tear down, just re-purposed for the GSM network.
