The problem with prophecy is that it is vague and subject to wide interpretation. If the event does not happen then the interpretation was not done correctly. If it does happen, then the prophecy is valid. The more widespread and general the prophecy, the more likely there will be some validity to the statement.

Personally, if the future can be accurately prophesised, then it is predetermined and our actions don't matter in a significant way. If we are in control of our own destiny then any prophecy must be significantly effected by individual actions, rendering accurate prophecy impossible.
