Root [International] 4.3 alternatives?

moeburn

Newbie
so since nobody in their right mind should willingly update their Samsung devices to Android 4.3, can anyone recommend any good 3rd-party alternatives?

Samsung enables the KNOX eFuse in Android 4.3, which means that trying to root your phone will result in a void warranty... that TriangleAway cannot fix. And there's no going back to a non-KNOX phone. So has anyone here had any experience with Android 4.3+ alternatives for their Galaxy S3? Which one do you like the most?

I really like Temasek's Unofficial Cyanogenmod 11 build.

[CM11][4.4][ROM][KERNEL][DEC02] temasek's UNOFFICIAL Build - V14 (r3p2 mali) - xda-developers

It's the best rom I've used on my phone yet.

Android Kitkat 4.4 and it's very smooth, and stable considering it's such a new rom.

Obviously there will be some bugs for some people, but 4.3 was never ironed out properly and the devs are moving onto 4.4 as it has so much more potential to be stable and smooth.

You can even use the new Android Run Time (ART) which makes everything buttery smooth in the way that Jelly Bean promised to do but didn't.

Any idea if I can use it on the SGH-I747M Galaxy S3? It has a different CPU/GPU than the i9300 S3.

No. You will need to flash a rom specifically designed for your phone model.

This is the i9300 forum, so I would suggest looking in your dedicated subforum for your model, but here is a link to software compatible for your phone:

But to get recommendations about which roms to try, ask here:

i still like the good old solid 4.2.2 roms like jellybeer or vanilla rootbox ;)

I agree. In my opinion the 4.2.2 roms were more stable than the 4.3 roms. I would invariably return to AOKP mr1 milestone 1 as it worked much nicer than 4.3 roms I tried.

However, I think a leap to 4.4 skipping 4.3 altogether is worthwhile as I'm finding my current rom more stable than 4.3 even though the kitkat roms are only in their infancy.

Even with bugs they are already better, as 4.3 never got the bugs ironed out.

And they are FAST. And then you can make them even faster by enabling the ART runtime. I'm not going back, for sure. This is good enough for my daily driver.

Just my opinion mind ;)

ART is a new 'experimental' way of compiling apps so that they run quicker - particularly when starting up. It is rumoured to be replacing dalvik in later updates of Android. On 4.4 roms it is enabled in Developer Options.

Check this out as an introduction:

http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/792223-introducing-new-android-runtime-art.html

Not all apps work on the new runtime, but most do and the ones that don't are being updated to work with it. The most important one is Titanium Backup. The devs quickly responded to users' desire for it to be compatible with ART.

In the 4.4 roms thread in this ATR forum you can see funky's improvement in his benchmark results just by switching over to ART. And then of course, my reply... ;)
