Hi guys, I'm getting really confused between a Rom and kernel, I am running a siyah 3.0.39 on Android 4.0.4. My phone is rooted and i have no idea whatsoever what I need to do to get jellybean now

Any help is can get would be really appreciated!

That siyah version looks like you have a gs2 as the gs3 version is only up to 1.7. Could you let me know which one you have please as I don't won't to point you in the direction of firmware or a rom which isn't intended for your device. I should be able to get you sorted though.

You won't be able to update ota or with kies so you willneed to manually flashyour firmware with Odin. Firmware can be downloaded from here
SamMobile Firmware Page

There's a good guide to flashing firmware here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969

There is also the option of a jellybean custom rom. To flash a custom rom
1. Backup your apps with titanium or similar
2. Download the Rom to your phone
3. Boot into recovery mode
4. Make a nandroid backup
5. Clear data
6. Clear cache
7. Clear dalvik (in advanced)
8. Format system (in mounts and storage)
9. Select install zip from sd
10. Choose zip from sd (external) or internal sd depending on where you saved the Rom
11. Find the rom zip and flash

You forgot to mention that you also need to backup the EFS folder! Very important! ;):)

By the way as we are mentioning the EFS folder, does a format system in mounts and storage affect the EFS folder or nandroid backup in any way?

Thanks

Good point I've needed to restore my efs before.

Formatting system won't do anything to your efs or nandroids
