hello there can anyone please help me i hava galaxy s3 and i rooted it but i didnt put any custom rom im still on my original firmware i only have supersu and cwm when trying to update firmware it gives me cwm recovery is it possible to update?

Hi Jukka, and welcome to AF,

Yes, it's possible. Best if you get advice from someone familiar with the device. If you tell us what version you have (e.g. what network, GSM/LTE/CDMA) and we'll move the thread to the most relevant forum.

No probs. I think international is correct - it will certainly be GSM.

I'll move the thread now. Just to be clear though, as a general rule it's best to stick to custom ROMs after rooting, as over the air updates are usually incompatible with rooted devices. Of course anything new that comes with an update is usually incorporated into ROMs pretty quickly. But the people in the S3 forum will be able to explain your options properly (I don't have one myself).

Greetings jukka,

Although you have a "mostly" stock rom, CW changes some of the system, so you have to remove it to update firmware.

Also some updates require that all the original bloatware be present before it will update.

If having root and CW are important to you, I would recommend waiting until the Devs release a version with the firmware updates added. Usually, any OTA firmware will kill whatever exploit that was used to root the phone.

What exactly do you want? You're trying to get an official update whilst rooted? Why? Why did you root in the first place? Why do you want to update? have you investigated custom ROMs? HOW are you trying to "update"?

actually i rooted first and then because i dont want to void my warranty i want to update officially and unroot my device is there any easy way to do so? im new to android and i didnt know what is rooting so i want to unroot now thanks alot :)

If you follow this youtube video, it runs through the process in a very clear and detailed manner.

You need to download an official firmware, and an app called TriangleAway and you will be able to return it to official stock where they will never be able to tell you've flashed the phone.

How to un-root & flash a stock ROM - Samsung Galaxy S III - GT-I9300 - By TotallydubbedHD - YouTube

But once you've watched it and have convinced yourself you know how to do it, why not wait?

Try flashing some custom roms and experimenting, with the knowledge that you can always return to official stock firmware whenever you like.

You could always go through the procedure, and once you're satisfied you can do it, re-root it!

Just saying...
