Root [International Tegra 3] Is my device ready to receive JB OTA update?

Hey there

I have been facing this problem, or more like wondering about it for a while now.

I upgraded my HBOOT to 1.31 and I had ARHD15 and then Viper X installed. Then the official Jelly Bean OTA update started rolling out to HTC devices and I was excited, so I decided I want to go back to the latest stock ROM so I can receive it when I tap "Check for Updates" under "Software Updates". I tried to use a stock RUU but of course that failed since my "get-var" thing says that I have a newer version than the latest one. Mine is 3+ while the latest one is 2+ if that makes any sense. I looked through all the stock RUUs but there wasn't any compatible one.

So I decided I should find another way to install the stock ICS ROM and I did. I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970

Anyway, I installed it, rooted the device, and then flashed the stock recovery so I would prepare my device for the OTA update.

I have a:

CID: HTC__J15
Region: .401 (WWE I believe)

This is the latest RUU I found:

RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.12_Radio_2.1204.127.19_release_271851_signed.exe

However, mine is 3.27.401 if I remember correctly, therefore I cannot install the above one.

So anyway, is my device ready to receive the OTA update now or am I just fooling myself since I didn't go back to stock using the stock RUU?

Any help or information is really appreciated as I have been squeezing my brain about this for a while now and it's getting frustrating and I honestly feel stupid.

Thank you

Yeah, after I installed the stock ROM my device was unrooted but then I rooted it by installing Rooting Tools through CWM and then flashing the stock recovery. Yes, the bootloader wasn't affected and remained unlocked.

I installed ARHD17 to try it in the time being until I hopefully sort this thing out. A fellow on XDA told me that I'd need to install a Nandroid Backup with the latest firmware (2.17.401.2) and he gave me a guide with the steps and everything.

The guide has several Nandroids of several CIDs, though, and my CID (J_15) is under the missing CIDs. The fellow says that it doesn't matter what CID it is, though, as long as it is the latest version of software.

What do you think about this?

This is the thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140

And this is what he said:

"The CID has little to do with the backup, you just need a backup for 2.17.401.2, which is there."

What do you think?

I think you should revert to full stock, no root or anything and just WAIT.
Or you can install ARHD 17.1 > it's better then stock anyway !

since youve updated your firmware, you will not likely be able to apply an OTA. even if you use recovery to flash a completely stock release version ICS rom(not based on a leak) and the updater finds the OTA,it wont apply becasue you dont have the firmware its expecting.

your best bet is to keep enjoying custom roms. they will undoubtedly be updated to the official OTA base as they are released.

once an ruu is released for your CID,you can relock and run that if youd like,to get current release firmware. re-unlock,reinstall recovery, and either flash superSU to enjoy stock rooted,or flash a custom rom,or restore a backup :)

running the ruu is every bit as good(IMO its safer) as getting an update OTA :)
